Statement of Purpose

The purpose of the Mossy Creek Middle School Band is to provide students with musical opportunities and experiences which will enhance their life and education. Students will leave the band program as competent musicians who will be able to use their skills outside of the MCMS Band Room. Hard work, respect, and discipline provide a solid foundation for musical growth and achievement.

 

Learning Environment

The Mossy Creek Middle School Band is a community of students who learn in a supportive and positive environment. Members of the MCMS Band take pride in themselves, their school, and the band program. Students use every opportunity to be a role model for other students in the school. Students who wish to participate in the band program must demonstrate responsibility for their behavior.

 

Program Objectives

Objectives for the instrumental music program at MCMS are based on the nine National Standards and the Georgia Music Performance Standards. They also encompass four areas. These four areas guide the decision making process for daily instruction. From these four areas, goals have been set, which students strive to meet daily.

 

Educational     To develop interested listeners and to provide a well-rounded musical background.

 

Cultural           To continue the development of music appreciation and understanding through the study and performance of various styles and genres of music.

 

Service            To lend color and atmosphere to our community affairs. Promoting and enhancing the dignity and reputation of Mossy Creek Middle School and MCMS Bands through programs of interest for band members, parents, fellow students, and the community.

 

Recreational    To provide students with an opportunity for worthy use of time in an emotional outlet and to create positive social experiences for all members.
